Practice (After-Listening) + Application Activities for Daily Routine Topic

Student profile: Beginner level of English language proficiency


Skills to be emphasized: Listening and Speaking


Language: What do you do when you get up in the morning? Do you follow any routine like having breakfast first or making your bed?


New vocabulary: Yawn, breakfast, shower, etc.

Review vocabulary: get, sleep, o’clock, etc.


Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to

  • Identify daily activities

  • Talk about their daily routine



Controlled Practice (group work)

  • Listen and Sing (Repetition + Sing)

Ss will be divided into groups with Picker Wheel (random team generator website) and every group will sing one by one. While singing together, they will have a chance to practice their pronunciation and intonation skills.


Guided Practice (pair work)

  • Discuss

Ss will go back to their own seats and work in pairs this time. They will ask/discuss about the pictures (page 13) with each other. The teacher will walk around the class and make sure everything is okay.


Potential discussion:

S1: What is he doing?

S2: He plays in the park. Do you like playing in the park?

S1: Yes!... Do you sleep at nine o’clock?

etc.


Independent Activity

  • Perform A Dialogue

Ss will perform a short imaginary dialogue with using the names from page 13 (Claire, Emma, Kate) with their peers.


Potential dialogue:

Kate: Good morning!

Emma: When do you have breakfast?

Claire: At eight o’clock, you?

Emma + Kate: Me too!

etc.


Application: Personalization

  • Presentation to The Class

Ss will make a presentation about themselves (their own day/daily routine) along with pictures, drawings, or posters.


e.g., “Hello, my name is…, I get up at 6 o’clock and have breakfast with my parents. Next, I…”
