Student profile: Beginner level of English language proficiency


Skills to be emphasized: Listening and Speaking


Language: What do you do when you get up in the morning? Do you follow any routine like having breakfast first or making your bed?


New vocabulary: Yawn, breakfast, shower, etc.

Review vocabulary: get, sleep, o’clock, etc.


Objectives: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to

  • Identify daily activities

  • Talk about their daily routine



1st Activity: Capture their attention

“Look at these pictures” Show pictures of people that having breakfast and going to school or work. “Can you guess today’s topic? (Top-down process predicting activity). Yes, we will learn about daily routines.”


2nd Activity: Connect to prior knowledge and experiences

“What do you do when you get up in the morning? Do you follow any routine like having a breakfast first or making your bed?” Ask students to share their experiences.


3rd Activity: Pre-teach new vocabulary

“Let’s do something fun! You will try to guess which picture I am talking about.”


  • Listen and Point: Show pictures on the smart board randomly (in a different order). “When I stop talking, you will point out the matching picture. Ready? *yawn* get up early…”
